So, last night I posted to Craigslist some free landscape blocks I dug out of my backyard. They were in the alley behind my garage, and I put my address in Craigslist as a vague nearby major intersection. I gave first dibs to the first person to respond. He went to go pick them up this afternoon, and they were gone. That means someone drove up and down the alleys in my town until they found them and took them without my permission. You gotta be a real dick to steal free stuff.
TL;DR - People are assholes, and I should not be shocked by them when I post free crap on Craigslist.

On any given Sunday night in my suburban neighborhood, you can count on anything of value to be taken from the curb before the Monday pickup. My old, broken grill lasted maybe an hour. Old toilets, 50/50 chance (ewwww!). No Craiglist needed, just a bunch of craftsmen and recyclers in the area. Another popular one is when people have trees taken down and cut up for curbside pick up. I guarantee those things are chopped up for firewood sales in the fall.

That is typically the norm for me too, but for some reason no one wanted the landscape bricks. They were sitting there for a couple weeks, but disappeared less than 12 hours after being listed on Craigslist.

I guess I should not have. What surprises me most, though, is that I purposely did not list my address. So, whoever it was deliberately drove around looking for them in a pretty heavily populated area.

since moving to a rural area, anytime i’ve needed to get rid of something that i didn’t feel like hauling off to the dump, i’ve just put it out by the road with a “free” sign on it. Longest anything sat out there was about 45 minutes. just the other day i put nasty rusted patio furniture out with black mold growing on the cushions, and someone literally stopped and took it before i had managed to walk from the end of the driveway back to the house.

I love Craigslist. Annoying as Hell much of the time, but I’ve met some good folks that way, and been outright cheated once or twice. Still the best way to roll.
